We will leave the HS at 11 a.m. on Friday. We will travel to Boise, attend the social and then check into our hotel. We will compete Saturday morning/afternoon then return home Saturday night. Remember you will be responsible for meals and get ready to run fast!

Regional Champions!

State XC @ Douglas

State will be at the Douglas Community Golf Course again this year. The boys will run at 10:30 and the girls and 12:00 on Saturday, October 22. We will be leaving Friday morning at 10 a.m. and should be home between 11 and 12 p.m. Saturday night. Because this is a season culminating event the school district will take care of all meals. TTMH!

Because of parking constraints, Douglas High School is offering a park and ride to alleviate parking concerns at the Douglas Community Golf Course. They will begin the Park and Ride at 9:30 a.m. It is a Free Service offered by Douglas High School. Those choosing to utilize the park and ride may park at Bartling Park, 100 Block of Jefferson Street. As you travel toward the Douglas Community Club Golf Course on Labonte Rd. turn left on Laramie St. Bartling Park is located 3 blocks east. The Park and Ride is located about 3/4 mile from the golf course. This will help alleviate traffic congestion and parking issues along the way to the golf course. They will have busses available to take you to the Douglas Community Golf Course. We will also bring you back to Bartling Park when you would like to leave. Busses will be avaialable for the entire State Cross Country Meet and after the Awards Ceremony. Regional XC 2011

It's hard to believe that we are down to the last two meets of the year. Thank you to everyone who helped with our meet this last Friday. Way to buck up and run well in the slop and the cold. I will post times/photos soon. The regional meet is this Friday at 1 p.m. at the Powell Country Club- located approximately 5 miles East of Powell on the Powell/Cody Highway. (Highway 14 alt.) The girls will run at 1 p.m. followed by the boys. Awards will be given directly after the 2 races. We will travel to Cody on Thursday. When we leave will depend on if we can drive through Yellowstone or not. we should know an exact time later in the week. We will be home Friday night. Please pack dinner for the road the night before the race. We will take care of the rest. The top 7 runners for our team will qualify to run at the state meet with the possibility of bringing an alternate for both boys and girls. Keep hydrated and get your rest. The competition will be fierce--but now is time to cash in on all the hard work you've done this year!

The 2011 Star Valley Invitational will be held tomorrow, October 7th @ the Star Valley Vu Golf Course in Afton. The Middle School boys and girls will run together at 3 p.m. the course is approximately 2500 meters. They will be followed by the HS girls and HS boys. Teams that are expected to compete are Soda Springs, Evanston, Mountain View, and Lyman. We are planning on running despite the weather.

We will be hitting the road again at 10 a.m. this Friday. This time for a drive through scenic central Idaho to attend the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park in Boise. The “2011 JACKALOPE CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL” is on Friday September 16th, 2011. There will be running a middle school race for those of you who wish to participate. We are including a course map for your review. Please note the following:

From the coaches and spectators point of view, a short walk from the starting and finishing line to the top of the hill will allow you to view the starting and finishing line and will allow you to view the complete race from a single vantage point. As you will notice, we will start on the 18th fairway and will finish on the 17th fairway.

2:00 PM FIRST RACE—GIRLS 3K MIDDLE SCHOOL

We will be competing in Soda Springs this Saturday. The bus will leave Star Valley High School at 7 a.m. We will pick up athletes at Thayne Elementary and Silverstar if that is more convenient for you. The race schedule is as follows:

We will be headed to American Fork this Friday for the grass relays. This will be an excellent "rust buster" for us and give us a chance to compete as a team. We are also planning on hitting a water park afterwards...so bring a swimsuit, pack your dinner, and the school will pick up the tab for meals on Saturday. NXN Regionals @ Boise

Last weekend we checked out the scene at NXN Regionals in Boise. We fielded 2 complete boys teams in the open varsity race, and individuals in both the girls varsity open and the championship race. Runners from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, and Washington took it to the course @ Eagle Island State Park. We also were able to meet Dathan Ritzenhein, former US 5k record holder and running superstar. The team T-shirts were a huge hit in the t-shirt swap too. Good times for all. NXN Regionals @ Boise

We are entered and have been practicing for one last hurrah for 2010 at the Nike National Northwest Regional in Boise on November 13th. We will leave on 11/12 at 11:30 a.m. from the high school. Please bring enough money to pay for your meals. Each athlete has been given a packet containing information they will need for the weekend. State Cross Country 2010

The snow stayed away just long enough for the Braves and Lady Braves to record 7th and 3rd places respectively. Hailey Ricks made history by becoming the first Star Valley individual champ ever-- 3 or 4A, followed closely by Brooke and Brittney Nethercott who also recorded all-state honors, finishing 6th and 8th. Huge improvements this year ladies, and another year and some serious mileage will set us up for some more serious competition. David Livingston led the Braves finishing 14th. We will have a short meeting Wednesday for those who want to run at the Nike Regional XC meet on Nov. 13th. Practice will start that day after school.

Nice work defending our turf this last weekend. The girls repeated as regional champs and the boys finished 4th. Time for a little tune up and then we'll finish with a bang this weekend in Douglas at the Douglas Community Golf Course (64 Golf Course Road, Douglas, Wyoming). The schedule will be as follows on Saturday unless there is a delay due to frost:

American Falls Invitational Cross Country Meet

Date: Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Location: Indian Springs Resort

Directions: Take the Rockland exit (#36) and turn south. Travel approximately 1.3 miles. At that point you will see a sign that says Indian Springs. The entrance veers from the highway to the left. Follow that to Indian Springs.

Time: The first race will start at 3:30 p.m., and the others will follow

Race Order: MS Girls – MS Boys – HS Girls – HS Boys

Awards: Medals will be given to the top five boys and girls in each grade, 6th -12

Bob Firman Results/Bear Lake

Nice solid effort in Boise this weekend! The Girls scored their first ever trophy by placing 3rd. Complete results are HERE.

We will compete at Bear Lake on Wednesday. The bus will leave at 2 p.m. The middle school athletes will run at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity boys at 4:30, then the girls approximately 10 minutes later. Time to avenge that loss to Soda!

Star Valley Invite Results/Bob Firman

I have the results from Thursday's home meet. I'm still trying to get them on athletic.net. Both the boys and girls took 2nd. The girls fell short by one measly point to Soda Springs, despite running 1,2,3...ladies we have some work to do. The boys finished a more distant second to Teton, charging out hard early but falling off the pace a bit. It will be fun to compare our times 4 weeks from now at regionals. Now time to do some more work!

The bus will leave Friday morning at 8 a.m. Dress in good school clothes for the trip. We will be stopping in Pocatello and Twin Falls on the way up. We will check into our hotel and go and run the course at Eagle Island State Park, come home, change, and get some dinner. Remember you are responsible for your meals the first day, we will take care of you on Saturday. Race schedule can be found here. We will run in the Division 1 races, and either the first or second of the JV races. This is the big daddy for the year, over 2900 race participants are registered!

The results from the Cardinal Classic this last weekend can be found HERE. We took a big stride forward this week. We are pleased with your desire to improve and compete. The weather was hot and the competition even hotter. Way to get after it. We will leave on Friday at 12:30 for the Tiger-Grizz (meet info/link to Google Map) meet at Freeman Park in Idaho Falls. This will be another chance to take your shots at the best teams in the State of Idaho. Time to close those gaps and get after it!

Pocatello Results/BBQ/Soda Springs

Blast from the past--Ashley and Hailey as MS runners in 2006 on the Cardinal Classic Course

Results are in from the Pocatello race. SVXC endured some tough hills and hot sun to finish 4th of 10 for both guys and girls. Complete results can be found HERE.

We will also be having a potluck BBQ please bring your parents and a salad Thursday night at 6:00 outside the cafeteria. We will go over rules, schedule, eat, and enjoy each others company.

The bus will be leaving at 6:30 from the HS. We will head North and pick up athletes at Thayne and Silverstar before heading to the meet at Kelly Park in Soda Springs. We will be home mid-afternoon. Kelly Park is the site for the 2010 Idaho State Championships so it will be a big meet with plenty of competition. Get ready to roll, red machine, roll.

Our season was off with a bang with midnight madness last week. With one week of daily-doubles down and one more to go we will be heading to Pocatello (Meet Info) for our first meet of the year. To reward those who have attended all their practices we will also be stopping for a swim at Lava Hot Springs afterward-Coaches treat. The bus will leave at 12:30 on Friday the 27th and return home about 11:00 that same night. Dust off your racing flats, bring your swimsuit and get ready to have a great time!

A looooong bus ride to Sheridan this last weekend and the SV harriers were able to strut their stuff for the rest of the state. On the boy's side nearly every runner ran a personal best to lead us to a 9th place finish. Everyone will be back next year, and men, its time to take another big step forward with some serious running this spring and summer. The girls came to win it and came up a bit short. Ladies, I know you don't consider a 3rd place a good thing but remember to keep it in perspective...this year you amassed more wins than any other xc team in school history-combined. Any other sport at the school would love to be 6-2 against individual opponents. We are doing the right things. We will retool, tighten the ship and then be back for blood next year. Use the disappointment to fuel your desire. To all runners we have had an amazing trip this fall. Thanks for making SVXC what it is. Seniors, thanks for your contributions. We will miss you.

Friday was the 4A west conference meet in Evanston. Another great performance by the Braves and Lady Braves. As a team the JV boys finished 3rd, the Varsity boys were barely bumped from a podium spot and the JV Girls and varsity girls cleaned up winning their respective races. Times from the races are found here.

The bus for state will be hitting the road at 6 a.m. on Friday morning. Pack your flats, uniforms, and speed as it is time to roll the dice and make a withdrawal from the bank!

Bus Parking Available at the State Park close to the starting area

Hospitality Area Will be at the shelter near the start area. Coaches, workers, administrators and bus drivers are welcome.

Course Fairly flat, with 2/3 asphalt and 1/3 hard gravel trail.

Walk Through Runners and coaches may walk through the trail on Friday morning prior to the starting time. The course will not be set up until Friday morning.

General Information Restrooms are available, but, shower and dressing facilities will be at the high school if needed. We will not provide towels.

Coaches Information Coaches will receive a packet with the runner identification stickers. Please make sure the information is correct and the runner has the sticker on the upper left side of their running top.
We will run 7 boys and girls in the Varsity division. The Junior Varsity divisions may have 7 entrants.
We must have a roster of runners and a team photo mailed or faxed to Dauna Bruce by Wed., Oct. 7.

T-Shirts We are selling Conference meet T-shirts for the cost of $20. If you would like to make a team order to guarantee that your team members get the size they want, orders must be placed by Oct. 12th. We will collect the money when the teams arrive.

Bob Conley Invitational-Pocatello

The cool weather couldn't cool off the times at the Bob Conley Invitational held on the campus of Highland High School in Pocatello. 20 schools and 15 full teams participated in the meet. The JV teams got us started off right with some huge personal best by Gabe, and big and little Ben's. Keep up the good work fellas. The girls JV, despite not filling a full team also ran to personal bests- Charli took a huge chunk of time off to lead the girls and score a medal with a time of 23:35.22 and Zandi killed it-almost breaking 24 minutes in the process and is definitely in the hunt for the most improved award this year. The Rebeccas also score season bests.

The girls race was almost more nerve-wracking after the race than during...when they finally figured the scores correctly Star Valley had won handily with 71 points over Twin falls with 105. Hailey posted a personal best again running 19:50, followed closely by Brittney (who will break 20 minutes soon) and Brooke who ran 15th despite taking a digger. Randi ran with the leaders for much of the race before her recent illness got the best of her but she managed to hold on to 17th. Ashley went to the pain cave early and often, Abby ran a personal best, and Kirsten is finally getting back in form after dealing with injury for the last couple of years. Nice work ladies, lets keep the momentum going!

On the boys side they brought their "A" game. Learning from their slow start at Bear Lake the week before--the men of Star Valley got out early and often and buzzed through the course running many personal bests and running six runners within a minute of each other. Keep running hard men...lets earn some hardware of your own. Competing and running strong as a team may be enough to win it next weekend.

With three weeks left in the season the Braves and Lady Braves brought in the homecoming week with a bang. Amid the snow, cold, and some healthy competition from 11 schools the Star Valley runners continued their quest for perfection. The Braves were led by David Livingston to a 4th place finish. The girls charged to the front of the pack (literally) with super performances by Hailey, Brittney, Brooke, Ashley, and Abby to win the meet and to beat the Soda girls for the first time in school history. We are looking to continue to improve and get over our "niggles" and colds to put on our best performances of the year at State.

Bob Conley this upcoming Saturday. Below is the information for our meet this weekend. The bus leaves at 6:15 a.m. Saturday morning. Pack a lunch, your racing flats, and your race-face and we'll tangle with some schools from Idaho one more time before heading into conference action.

Spectacular performances by the SVXC squad at Eagle Island State Park in Boise. Runners overcame the heat and humidity to score personal bests. Kudos to the girls varsity who just barely missed bringing home some hardware. They ran a text book race- cruising through the first mile in 6:37 (about 65th place) before throwing down the hammer. They finished 10th, 16th, 19th, 24th, and 73rd places for fourth place. That is some serious passing.

Evanston Results/Bob Firman Invitational

Another excellent week for Star Valley Cross Country is in the books. Last Wednesday we traveled to Evanston to see the Regional course and check out the competition from Green River, Rawlins, Evanston, and Lyman and came home with buckets of hardware. Once again the girls logged a perfect score and Ashley Hall put in the performance of the week by keeping the gap to 45 seconds despite taking a digger part way through the race. The boys also showed their strength in pack running by edging out Green River for the win despite not placing anyone in the top 3. This next week we will be traveling to Eagle Island State Park in Boise to take on over 80 schools and get a preview of the Nike Northwest Regional Course at the Bob Firman Invitational. We will be competing with the division 1 (large schools). Click on the "Bob Firman" for race times. We will leave Friday morning at 10:00 and travel to Boise. We will check in then we will preview the course and stop for something to eat. (Please remember that School District Policy will provide for meals only on the second day.) Home Invite/Evanston this week

Despite a sparse turn out for the varsity races this last Wednesday at Star Valley Ranch, the Star Valley Braves and Lady Braves showed their stuff by packing up and running hard. There were multiple personal bests for the course reflecting all the hard work you put in this summer and pre-season. Randi, Hailey, Brittney, and Brooke ran together for nearly the whole race before Randi pulled away winning with a time of 21:50. They will undoubtedly run faster this season with some competition. Abby and Ashley showed their determination to close the gap on the top 4 and will undoubtedly be players in our success this fall.

On the boys side Jared showed his experience by outlasting superfrosh David Livingston for the win. The Braves filled in behind them well with big course-bests for Taylor, Nathan, Michael, and Caleb. Other solid performances were turned in by Logan, Gabe, and Ben. Keep believing and working hard men and you will turn heads at the end of October.

Jackson cancelled their meet due to lack of interest so we will be running at Bear River State Park on Wednesday, September 16th. Evanston, Green River, Rawlins, and Lyman will also be attending. Bear River State Park is the first exit from Evanston on I-80 East. The races will start at 4:00(JV girls) 4:30 (JV boys) 5:00 (Varsity girls) 5:30 (Varsity boys). Complete schedule to follow. JV and Varsity teams will be based on performances this last week. Keep working hard and believing....

Great work this weekend! Both boys and girls showed their toughness and groovy sense of style and fashion while swimming the moats and braving the sands at Sandy Downs. If you have not got in as much running as you should have it is not too late. Three weeks is enough time to close the gap with your teammates. So get out and run! Just a few reminders.

It is no contact time with coaches from now until the start of the season. Get together anyway and get some running in on Wednesday nights!

We will be starting the season with a bang this next week! Our first team run will be up Dry Creek we will meet at the pull out by the Forest Service sign at 7:00. Those who have signed up will also be running the Wasatch Back relay on Friday/Saturday. We are in the process of finding one more leg for the girls and getting leg assignments finished. Get out there and get running! Time to start banner hunting!

I just received camp brochures for Summit View this summer. It will take place on July 23-25. The cost is $75. I will bring the brochures to the first team run. If you will not be there please email me (tdraney@lcsd2.org) with your mailing address so I can mail you one. I really believe that this camp is well worth your time and $$$.

Great job this season. Fighting, scratching, and clawing you managed to produce your best times and efforts when it mattered most. Countless hours and miles resulting in a 3rd place and 5th place at state. Congrats. It was not what we wanted or hoped for but it is progress. Seniors, we will miss you. Underclassmen, we have to recommit ourselves to achieving greatness. It will take a lot of miles and growing up to reach our goals but with the right amount of attitude and commitment we WILL make it happen.

STATE 2008 Cha-Ching!

The State Meet will be held in Sheridan at the State VA Hospital Grounds:

The VA is located on Fort Road. Take Exit 20 (The last exit to the north) off of I-90 and travel south for a little over 1/2 mile on Main Street to Fort Road located just pas the railroad tracks. Turn right on Fort Road/Hwy 337 and follow the road up the hill for about 3/4 of a mile and it will run right into the VA Grounds Entrance. Continue for a little over a half mile along the tree lined street until you get to an intersection with a parking lot to the left. Stay on the mainroad to the left and you will enter the race area near the flagpole. Please park the buses on the right hand side of the street of "The Loop" will circle around and end up near the flagpole/Start Line.

Admission for the public is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students

We will race at the following times (approximate) on Saturday.

4A Girls- 11:40
4A Boys- 1:25

We will head home after awards. We will try to get home before 2 a.m. Sunday morning, if we cannot we will stay in Riverton and return home Sunday morning after a little rest.

Wet and Muddy at Bob Firman!

After a mucky, slimy, wet start of the day we were able to get down to business. The atmosphere was great and the competition stiff. The ladies stole the show running 6 within 35 seconds and the boys also closed the gap considerably. With 4 weeks to go in the season there is still work to do and time to shave! Take care of yourselves and DO WORK! The DOJO and GLORY await!

BOB FIRMAN INVITATIONAL-Boise

This weekend we will be traveling to the Bob Firman Invitational, site of the 2008 Idaho State Cross Country Championships. There will be a ton of competition, including the #1 boys team in the nation!

The bus will leave at noon on Friday and we will be back in the valley late Saturday night. Remember that you need to bring a lunch and $ to cover dinner for Friday and we will take care of you on Saturday. For schedule of races, schools competing, maps, and other information click HERE.

Star Valley Invitational

Star Valley High School defended their turf with tenacity and style last Wednesday at the Cedar Creek Golf Course at Star Valley Ranch. The ladies started it off by finishing two in the top ten and six in the top 14, finishing a close second to the powerhouse 2-time defending state champ Soda Springs Cardinals. Cardinal Classic this Saturday

We will be running at the Cardinal Classic this weekend! Time to compete--finally! The bust will leave the HS at 7:15 a.m. We will travel through the lower valley stopping at Thayne Elementary and Silverstar to pick up athletes. We will then travel over Tincup Road to Kelly Park. Located North of downtown Soda Springs. (When coming through Tincup canyon you will turn left to park before reaching the town of Soda Springs. If you travel via Montpellier you will need to take overpass at the first light in Soda and follow signs toward Greys Lake. Turn right before you leave town.) The tentative schedule is as follows:

9:00am Coaches/Citizens Race 5000 meters
10:00am Middle School (7th/8th grade) Girls 2400 meters
10:30am Middle School (7th/8th grade) Boys 2400 meters
11:00am Junior Varsity Girls (Div. A and B) 5000 meters

MIDNIGHT MADNESS-TONIGHT!!!!!!

Meet at the high school tonight at 11:50 for Midnight Madness III. Bring clothes to run and your sleeping gear. We will run shortly after midnight (course to be determined), after which we will have a short goal-setting session, breakfast, a little sleep, (hopefully w/out sprinklers:) and then a second run at 7:30 a.m. See you there!!!

Now that we have camp and the Swift Creek run under our belts-Midnight Madness looms in the not-so-distant future.
We will be meeting @ 11:45 on 8/17. Bring your running clothes and sleeping gear. Our first run/practice will happen on 8/18 at 12:00:01. After our run there will be breakfast and a short goal-setting session. After a short night's rest we will put in our second run at 8 a.m. and get you the rest of your paperwork. (Remember that you need a physical dated after 7/1 of this year.)

Summit View Camp this week!

Those of you that missed this week's run up the Cedar Creek Trail surely missed an experience: all the single-track rocks, hills, dirt, and otter pops you could stand! Excellent work Kirsten, Alicia, Logan, Jared, Cody, and Josh. Way to run like animals!!

Lots of XC action in the next few weeks. Here are a few of the opportunities to get lean, mean, and fast.
1. Summit View Camp 7/24-7/26
-Bus leaves the high school 7/24 @ 10 a.m. for Summit View Campground
-2 days and night of nothing but running, fun, learning, running and running
-We will return home by 2 p.m. Saturday
*If you have not mailed your forms/$ to Coach Horsley just bring it to the camp with you.

2. Ultimate frisbee @ the Afton Tabernacle 7 p.m. 7/23--no-contact frisbee & ice cream:)

3. Swift Creek 5k-Fair week, watch the Independent for details..

Summer Training Begins!

If you haven't started already this is the big kickoff week for summer training. For those who can make it we will be meeting at "Wicki-up" in Dry Creek Canyon (approximately 1.5 miles south of fitness center on Hwy 89, turn East and drive another 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile) this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Remember that your individual success and the team's success depend on you getting in quality training NOW!-So get out there and run!
